So, we happened upon a Reichstag Refugee Protest in Berlin.
It was a rare sunny Berlin day, so ready to stretch our legs, we took an entire afternoon to stroll the lengths of beautiful Tiergarten Park. Eventually nearing the park’s end, just within sight of Brandenburg Gate, we noticed a large group of people congregating nearby… Was it some type of festival?
Curiously, we headed towards the throng, but upon arrival, the gathering was clearly not of a celebratory nature. The crowd had pushed down fences in order to enter the Reichstag’s lawn. In turn, police vehicles had surrounded the area in front of the government building and were keeping a watchful eye on the vocal protestors. We kept our distance, but intrigued by the scene’s intensity, began asking other lookers-on what was happening. Apparently, the protesters were letting their government know that they were unhappy with the poor treatment being afforded to refugees arriving in Germany.
