Yep, our current situation is Southeast Asia, and we’re hanging with elephants…
They’re of the critically endangered Sumatran Asian Elephant species, and we feel extremely grateful to have spent some time with these big guys..
Actually, the whole trip was pretty amazing…
We knew that we wanted to visit Indonesia, but which of the 17,508 islands? We’ve both always wanted to see Bali, but recent reports point to tourist saturation, so possibly Komodo Island where most of the world population of Komodo dragons lurk?
We finally agreed on Sumatra and signed up for a five day/four night adventure in Bukit Lawang, where we’d trek into Gunung Leseur National Park in search of wild orangutans (we spotted 13!), sleep in the jungle, then float down the rapid-filled river on makeshift rafts back to civilization. The next day, we headed on to the elephant sanctuary in Tangkahan, Indonesia, where they’re slowly growing the herd, and sharing the elephants’ lovable majesty with those willing to make the journey.
This trip was utterly amazing, possibly life-changing really, and you must check out the video! As a matter of fact, the tour operator, EcoTravel, caught wind and contacted us about featuring the video on their website… So cool!
Speaking of big news.. Wanderlust Duo has received some pretty nice press as of late..
First off, after finding our awesome whale shark photo on Instagram, a Philippines-based online magazine called Philihappy.com, contacted us about writing an article about our experiences in the Philippines. And… We’re officially published for the first time!! They made some edits to our submission for translation purposes, but overall we’re VERY EXCITED to be featured on their site! Check it out!
Next up, we found out that the high-profile tour-app called Detour, founded by the ex-CEO of Groupon, quoted our unsolicited review in their company trailer video, along with huge names Conde Nast Traveler, TechCrunch and Financial Times. See what we had to say at 0:55!
And last but not least, FREE STUFF!
Another online tour app company, called GPSmyCity, contacted us about sharing their app with our followers. Right now, they offer over 5000 downloadable self-guide tours in over 470 cities(including our hometown of St. Louis, Missouri!), and they’ve given us 30 free promo codes!! Just comment at the bottom of our blog post “Traveling the World On Foot,” and the tour of your choice is yours. The promotion runs out when we get 30 replies, or March 31st, whichever comes first, so don’t hesitate!
In the pipeline…
We’ve spent so much time without wifi, we just can’t keep up with all the material! Stay tuned for the awesome temples of Bangkok, dodging motorbikes in Ho Chi Minh City, and our overnight stay in the world’s 3rd largest cave in Central Vietnam, coming your way soon!
But if you just can’t get enough Wanderlust Duo, you gotta check out Krissy’s daily videos on the popular Snapchat app.
And lastly, WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW SUBSCRIBERS!!
We’ve had record numbers sign up in March, and we still have a whole week to go!
So stay tuned, tell your friends about us, and like, subscribe, and follow us on Instagram, Youtube, and Facebook for up-to-date photos, videos and stories!
And, if you know someone that lives in this part of the world, or know of any must-see spots, please let us know, because we are up for anything!!
With love,
Josh and Krissy Sedivy
