Moximon Chanting – Listening Pleasures

From the Santiago port we were lead to this year’s Moximon shrine…

In the southwestern highlands of Guatemala, the Mayan community of Santiago Atitlan celebrates the deity named Moximon. Each year the deity is moved to another home in the community, which becomes a shrine for locals Mayans to pilgrimage, pray, and give offerings. Two of the main offerings are tobacco and rum. The statue continuously has a cigarette or cigar burning and even is given a drink of booze from time to time. This audio recording was taken from the shrine in 12/17. Have a listen..
